Microsoft has ordered one of its fans to remove pictures he took during Bill Gates' keynote speech at Comdex last month and posted on his Web site. Chris De Herrera complied and removed the offending images from his Tablet PC enthusiast site, TabletPCTalk.com. Microsoft apparently didn't mind that De Herrera posted images of the PowerPoint deck outlining Gates' "seamless computing" vision or shots of the Tablet PC demo. What got the hackles up in Redmond were pictures of the "Matrix" spoof video starring Gates and Chief Executive Steve Ballmer. Is the company worried that its video artistry will be swapped royalty free on the video-sharing descendants of Napster? | ||

| I find it odd that they want this taken down, while there are still a number of sites that have Ballmer in his more embarasing roles: monkey-boy dance and developers, developers, developers... |

Ok I got the page now.. just long to show up. BUT! Let me clarify for all here. The MVP's were presented this video at the MVP Summit in April 2004. The MVP's asked Steve Ballmer during his Q&A with us if we could be given a copy of the video. He said yes, it shouldn't be a problem, but let me clarify.
Later, Lori Moore came out and said that we couldn't get the video because it was a video that was copyrighted to the Matrix writers (they are the same ones who produced the video with Bill and Steve). I was there, saw the video and heard it from the horses mouth. |

In addition to what #14 said...
As with almost all of the Microsoft spoof videos from conventions of the past, the actors, nor the directors are paid for any distribution and often produce the works based on their own copyrights, not Microsofts. Hence, MS is not allowed to distribute it, but use it for the convention only. That is why even watching the speeches in stream the, the video parts are always cut out. Take it up with the actor's guild, not Microsoft. |
