Microsoft's web browser, Internet Explorer, is continuing its slow but steady slide in market share. According to fresh numbers from web metrics firm Websidestory, IE's share has slipped 1.8 per cent in the last three months. While still far and away the market leader, the browser now has a 93.7 per cent share, compared to 95.5 per cent in June. | ||

| A drop of 1.8% in three months is statistically insignificant, and is just as likely to rise 1.8% in the next three months. And people are also learning how insecure most open sores software like Firebox really is. Twenty critical security problems since June and growing at an alarming rate. |

Personally I've taken the John Kerry approach on browsers.
My Default Browser changes weekly and I launch one or the other depending on how I'm feeling. I have settled on Moz's e-mail program for now... though Outlook 2003 is pretty damned cool, I may fork out the dollars for a copy of Office for it now. |

I am slowly converting my friends to Firefox. Some of them have never heard of it, I told them about it and they are trying it out :)

Parkker I bet you couldnt sign up as a Mozilla developer and introduce security holes even if you wanted to! You cannot prove me wrong.
Also there haven't been 10 serious holes found in 1 week! |

The pro-IE group just keep repeating the same old things:
Firefox market share is insignificant Firefox has more security holes Firefox security vulnerabilities are growing quickly Firefox will have even more vulnerabilities exposed as it gains market share Firefox is open source developed by amateurs Firefox is slower I can't help but think of the Iraqi Information Minister after the U.S. invaded Iraq... The interesting thing is that everyone I personally know that has started using Firefox has liked it and stayed with it--I don't know a single person who went back to IE. |

Perhaps you can explain the difference to me between a security audit and a security audit. If the Mozilla group pays a group of outsiders to audit their code, then after some period of time the number of found vulnerabilities will decrease (presumably). Exactly how is this a bad thing? Exactly how does this equate to "[making] Mozilla/Firefox the #1 target of hackers"?
I see no downside whatsoever to finding and fixing security vulnerabilities. What should cause you to go throw a temper tantrum would be if the Mozilla group actively refused to accept reports of vulnerabilities and actively refused to fix existing ones. In short, you're blowing smoke. |
