Microsoft Warns on Spyware's Impact | |

Though Microsoft Corp.'s new security update package is all about protecting systems from worms, viruses and spyware, it can't do much about what's already on computers — and that could pose a problem. The company is warning users of the Windows XP operating system to check for spyware before downloading the free massive security update, called Service Pack 2. Barry Goff, a group product manager at Microsoft, said some spyware could cause computers to freeze up upon installation of the update. | ||

Lots of spyware screws up XP's Winsock. Removing it or trying to do so hoses the IP stack.
Microsoft could also help out by making the Windows Firewall effective against threats both internal and external. |

| A number of things they could have done, or should have done may only have landed them in court answer questions about the code they used that appears to be someone elses. you want to fill in your secure holes, load McAfee Security Center. |

First, Spyware is the #1 threat in computing right now, and support for these criminal programs are saturing Help Desks at an alarming rate. So I've read.
And experienced myself. Daily. It's a never-ending battle. Secondly, corporations aren't going NEAR SP2 right now so SP2 isn't a solution at all. TL |
