Microsoft downplays Gates' talk of Nintendo | |

A German financial magazine, WirtschaftsWoche, reported Wednesday that Bill Gates said he was interested in buying video game giant Nintendo. Many Web sites and several news services picked up the report, and Microsoft Corp.'s public relations team shifted swiftly into gear for damage control and denial. Its corporate statement was that Microsoft did not comment on "rumors or speculation." Beyond that, the Microsoft view was clearly that the reported comments were out of context. The remark attributed to Gates was made during an informal cocktail reception after Microsoft's yearly financial analysts' meeting recently at the company's Redmond headquarters. | ||

Putting aside all the deal-breaking problems that would occur with the clash of cultures... the PRODUCT combination would be great. Nintendo has the youngest players, MSFT has the Older. They would squeeze Sony in the middle. Also, MSFT has the American market, and Nintendo has the Japanese.
But, this deal isn't gonna happen anytime soon, and likely never. If for no other reason, Japanese pride will get in the way. And that isn't necessarily a bad thing. Sometimes I wish some American companies would show some of that same kind of national pride (ie... MILLER beer). This post was edited by mooresa56 on Thursday, August 05, 2004 at 15:25. |

My kids have them all and seem to like all of them equally and for different reasons and atdifferent times - all title driven it seems. The do play more X-Box, because it seems that the titles they are interested in now are on that platform. They also like the interface and X-Box Live, but have not tried the other services.
I think that gaming and converging systems in the home is important to MS - likely entertainment in general is the larger driver. Makes some sense for them to want Nintendo - of all of them, it is the most interesting to watch them play on - again, title driven - though the hardware seems more fragile than PS2 or X-Box. |

halcyon - "MS dropping the price of X-Box games was good too (they were normally $10 more than any GC or PS2 game because of licensing). "
When was this the case? I don't remember this EVER. |
