Microsoft: Cripple IE to Protect Your PC | |

Microsoft is doing something unprecedented: It wants you to break one of Internet Explorer's key features. Why? Because only by limiting the browser's functionality can you be sure of stopping a sneaky--and dangerous--new breed of Internet virus. This latest targeted attack scenario, which uses malicious code dubbed "Scob" or "downlad.ject," exploits three flaws: two in Windows and one in Internet Explorer. One of the holes involves JavaScript; targeting this flaw, the Scob code lets a hacker attach a program written in JavaScript to Web pages. If you visit an infected Web site, the program automatically executes in IE, and voila! you're infected. Taking advantage of these multiple flaws, a group of Russian crackers recently mounted attacks on several hundred Web sites--aimed at putting lots of visitors at risk. Included on their hit list were some very reputable sites. | ||

Firefox is still a beta. I'm using Mozilla till Firefox 1.0 comes out, AFAIK in late September. If you have Firefox problem, you may want to see if Mozilla has the same problems.
Microsoft is coming out with a fix for download.ject, likely next week. Mozilla and its off-shoots have two recently discovered security issues, which will likely be fixed next week; Opera fixed one security issue just last week. Bottom line: you pick your browser and you take your chances. Nothing is perfectly safe. |

Firefox does everything IE can do, plus a lot more.
If you like IE, you should like Firefox at least as much. Simple as that. Give it a shot! |

Maxthon? Isn't Maxthon is MyIE2, and isn't MyIE2 just a thin layer on top of IE? In that case, you're still left with all the wonderful security holes in IE.
And what, exactly, is an example of mission critical web surfing? |

People dont just use browsers for web surfing...............there are many many web based applications that would be considered mission critical by the people who use them for their day to day work. All the Firefox dev's are saying is dont blame them if Firefox BETA doent work for all your web based (mission critical) apps.
MyIE2 is a joke, anyway who on Earth would want to use anything based on IE? Yes #11, total agreeance. I must admit Firefox has a few bugs, but they'll all be fixed by version 1.0. BTW, Anyone who cant see the adavntage of tabbed browsing simply hasnt tried it.......Otherwise you'd know, big screen or not. #6, I had the same problem with not being able to go back to previous page, for me, I resolved it by chaging themes, and "Restoring the Default Set" of toolbars. I downloaded Firefox. Used it a few times, and haven't gone back to it in weeks. I just didn't see anything compelling.

Firefox = (Everything IE Can Do) + (Less Chance of Getting Screwed by a Security Hole) + (Lots of Other Great Stuff If You Want It)
Or...to say the same thing a slightly different way... Firefox = (Better Than IE) |
