IT'S DONE!!!!!!!
Yes, this is the official word that DOOM 3 has been code released and has been approved for manufacturing!
It won't be long now until the anticipation ends and the PH34R begins ;-) We literally just hung up with
Activision and have confirmed that our latest release candidate has been mutually approved and is finally
GOLD. Thanks to everyone for their patience (yeah right! =) and for everyone at id, Activision and our
numerous partners for helping us create what I believe is absolutely the best game we have ever made.
So, the next question is release dates. Retailers in the States will be allowed to pick up games starting
at 12:01 AM on August 3rd. The official street date is actually August 5th in the U.S.A., but some of
your favorite stores will probably have it early for those of you who have to have it first. Check with
your local retailer for that information.

I bought my 6800 for Doom 3... plus my 9200SE was just utter crap...
Anyway, I scored 7000 on 3DMark 03 on this POS 1100mhz Athlon.... if I could only get the idiots at www.computerbrain.com to send me decent freaken hardware I could have my newer stuff up and running for more than 2 days....
Notice to all, do NOT, EVER, do business with computerbrain.com

I like www.mwave.com and www.newegg.com and www.zipzoomfly.com and www.buy.com
I price shop, usually end up checking against pricewatch.com
I hope my new Geforce FX5900XT can run this puppy! Otherwise I'm not buying the game.

Yeah, I used mwave many a years ago for a few parts on my older system... I don't like newegg just because you have to register with them.... I just hate it.
Basically, I bought a 2600+ and an Asus A7N8x-E for $200 (I upgraded it to all retail box stuff for an extra $50). I got the stuff, the CPU pins were bent and the board was dead.... sent it back, got my new hardware. Damn thing kept crashing and I couldn't figure out why... apparently the 2600+ they sent me back was actually a 2400+. Then it died just the other day out of the blue... I'm thinking this stuff is refurbished hardware. Plus when I called in to get another RMA the guy was just like "Well, we have already replaced your CPU"... I was just so pissed with the guy after that... they sent me a CPU with bent pins and he is trying to get me to back off of the RMA. Then he asked why I thought it was the CPU or the motherboard as "there are many other componants in the computer." I swear I think I would have smacked the guy if it was at an actual store location just because of all the crap they've put me through.
Honestly, i didn't care that much about the whole sending me back a slower processor, as it had been a month already that I was without a computer, and it's only a 75mhz difference... but now it is all dead again, I am thourghly pissed. And it had to die literally the day before I got my 6800. I haven't even gotten to test it with my other newer hardware yet.

BTW, I paid $282 for my vanilla 6800, and it screams. Plus it came with FarCry.

Damn it. Well... time to build a new PC.
Let me see here... dual PCI Express video cards, RAID 0 SATA 10k RPM HDs, 2GB of ram. Anybody have $4000 I could borrow? I'll pay you back, I promise.

It sounds like you should give newegg a chance. I've built multiple computers with the parts I've bought from NewEgg. Awesome prices, awesome service, never once had a single problem with any retail or OEM product that I've purchased from them. Who cares if you have to register.
"
-- Agreed I've dealt with them about 10 times in the last 3\4 years, so far 0 problems, and quick and quality service.

I've heard that returns (whether for defective merchandise or otherwise) are a nightmare with ZipZoomFly.
Anyone ever had to return anything to them?

I've not had to return to ZipZoomFly. I've only bought a few things there, because I often end up comparing them to newegg and the shipping is a major differential. I've had good luck returning to mwave and buy.com though.
The thing that has impressed me with newegg is how quickly my stuff shows up. They're relatively close to me on the FedEx ground line or something.

Yeah, I bought my video card from gameve.com, free shipping.
The really nice thing was it made it from LA to Orlando in 2 days, then it was at my house on the 3rd day. All this is via FedEx saver... I've never had a package get here that quickly.
