iPod undermines Microsoft on copy-locked CDs | |

When a copy-protected CD hit No. 1 on the U.S. music sales charts last month, it marked a breakthrough for the antipiracy technology in all but one sense: The music still wouldn't play on Apple's iPod. Now the two companies responsible for most copy-protected CDs are scrambling to create new versions of their technologies that are compatible with Apple's popular digital music player. In the process, they're both making substantial changes in the way CDs are digitally locked, changes that could ultimately be a setback to recent Microsoft strides into the music business. | ||

All compressed digital formats sound terrible. Stick with minimum 16-bit CD's if you want to hear music reproduced with soundstaging, and depth of musical image. IPod users try this:
First, get your ears cleaned out. Then take your iPod to a high end stereo store and ask them to play it through a finely tweaked audiophile system. Then listen to the same songs, if possible, played back using a high end CD transport. Your iPod will sound like a 1959 transistor radio in comparison. Music is best appreciated when it sounds like real music. |

Probably, but it is hard to carry around my 5000$ stereo sound system with me when I am jogging.......

Any CD which includes copy-protection like this no longer confirms to the CD spec, and can't use the CD logo.
Just want to point that out. |

| CP is getting more and more silly. It doesn't hurt music thieves but irritates the folks who still buy cd's so where is the use? This just doesn't make any sense. |
