MS Research has always been a great initiative and a great site that features a lot of working examples of what they are exploring. It is among my favorite sites and we often model a lot of what is featured there - mixing hardware, software and networks of different types to see what items of relevance and interest are all about.
I am very glad to see so many new initiatives that address above all esle, human interaction with computers, devices and networks. I think that is Microsoft's strongest benefit - their seemingly unique ability to deliver one discoverable solution after another - fashioning them all into what cannot be argued is an experience.
I remember so well, and in wonderment, when computers didn't even have screens. Even as old as gum tape called undulator tape, where we read mark space bits as they were represented as a line - rising or falling across the signal's excursion. To see how far we have come in so short a time is amazing and perhaps MS didn't invent it all,but they sure do know how to advance it. All of the new interface means combined would be wild and a lot of fun, too.
