The Microsoft .NET Framework version 2.0 beta redistributable package is the most recent update to the Microsoft .NET Framework and includes everything you need to run applications developed using the .NET Framework. Our timetracking\project tracking software at work uses it, it's not some tiny shareware app either. Bunch of game apps I'm finding uses it. It's taken about 2 years, but the apps are starting to percolate out in .net versions. Basicly alot of folks waited untill 1.1 was released before really taking a look at switching major development over to it, and I know for timing reasons many compainies didn't decide to switch there development over to.. because lets face it, whatever app you have it means pretty much a full re-write, probably worth it in the long run, but I think you find that with 2.0+ adoption will sky rocket. Remember vb didn't become 'vb' over night...
Some reason I think it'll really start take off. a) because 1.1 framework will be more common on systems. win2003, xpsp2 I think, probably win2k sp5... b) The knowledge pool on the topic has had time to mature in both people as will as support and communities. c) Commonly used development tools have had a chance to add support\version and make thier apps .net aware. Not to mention vs2005 kicks as$ and what many inhouse folks have really be holding out for is sql2005 which is a good time to finally make the switch d)Best practices have been developed and percolating... frankly it's been confusing for alot of people due to all the different ways you can do basicly the same thing with .net. ah.. course that's just my opinion I could be wrong. |
