Microsoft, Yahoo Issue Responses to Gmail Challenge | |

Responding to the impending public release of Google's Gmail service, which is offering users a full gigabyte (1 GB) of email storage space, Microsoft's MSN Hotmail and Yahoo's Mail service are both dramatically increasing their storage allotments. Yahoo's updated service debuted late last week, but Microsoft's planned update should be available soon. Yahoo Mail can't quite match Gmail's 1 GB offering, but the service has made a dramatic jump from the previous 4 MB limitation to 100 MB, which Yahoo executives say should be enough for most users. "What we are trying to do is take storage off the table as an issue," said Yahoo vice president Brad Garlinghouse, noting that Yahoo previously charged users $60 a year for 100 MB of storage. Yahoo also raised the email attachment size limit from 3 MB to 10 MB, and the company now offers only one paid upgrade package: For $20 a year, users can upgrade to a whopping 2 GB of storage space. Users who pay for Yahoo Mail will also see no graphical ads, the company says. | ||

" Hmmm, so are you taking about the extra storage option that has been out for more than a year (most likely much longer)...I am curious to the relevance of your above statement in regards to an future (null) unreleased product? Maybe I was incorrect. As per the article: "In July, the company will roll out a major upgrade that includes much more storage space, although a Microsoft representative was unable to corroborate the exact amount. "Part of that [upgrade] will ensure that storage won't be an issue [for customers]," she said. " Hmmm, sounds like it defiantly isn't "already come for MSN users" like you described...but maybe it's a perception problem on my end. humor |

Regardless, in context of your statement, you indicated that MS "response" already happend...which it obviously did not.

I love it! It syncs automatically Smartphone and Outlook with the server where I can always have a web based access if I need it. Plus MSN messenger integrates really well with mobile technology which is one of my passions.
If you get a lot of stuff, i could see why you would want other vendors...but until Gmail, 25MB was enough for me. Now MS may be giving me even more. I love competition. humor This post was edited by humor on Tuesday, June 22, 2004 at 03:08. |

Sure. I did get one spam e-mail on my Yahoo e-mail account yesterday--the first in about a week. The message was automatically put into the bulk mail folder. Like I said before, I have used Yahoo mail for about 4 years with the same e-mail address. That one e-mail address is used for every site registration, online purchase, and all correspondence. I just don't see a spam problem. Interestingly, I don't know of a single hotmail user that even comes close to being this spam free. |

Hotmail doesn't generate spam, it recieves like all mail server do. Wrong again.
I'm sure all the millions of hotmail customers don't agree with you. |

But hotmail's sync is supported by the one of the largest sw companies in the world and has all kinds of features to sync with multiple computer, my smartphone, and outlook. All for 9.95 a month...sounds like a good deal to me.
But if you want more control (and cheaper price), eOutlook.com has some great prices and full exchange 2003 support (including RPC over HTTP). humor |
