Microsoft and Sonic Unveil DVD Authoring Application For Windows Media Video High-Definition | |

Today at NAB2004, Microsoft Corp. and Sonic Solutions unveiled DVD Producer (TM) -- WMV HD Edition, a special version of Sonic's award-winning professional authoring application that supports the production of DVD titles using Microsoft® Windows Media® Video High-Definition (WMV HD). WMV HD delivers dramatically superior image quality with high-definition video at data rates comparable to standard-definition DVD video. Sonic is launching a beta program for DVD Producer -- WMV HD Edition to provide high-end professional facilities with early access to this groundbreaking technology so they can build exciting high-definition experiences using WMV HD for playback on Windows® XP PCs. Sure would be nice to see some applications that can actually maintain AV Sync for crying out loud! Yeah yeah... "It all depends on what formats you import at what sampling rates, blah blah"
So far... Movie Maker 2 is the ONLY application I've seen do it flawlessly. Encore, Premiere, Sonic MyDVD, Pinnacle Studio, ULead MovieFactory, ULead VideoStudio, ULead DVD Workshop, and others... NONE, absolutely NONE of them will allow you to edit a video, flawlessly render an MPEG-2 and burn it to DVD without losing sync between audio and video. Anyone have any products that friggin' work? I'm at the end of my line right now and am giving up until Movie Maker 3 that will hopefully possess DVD authoring qualities. Unfortuantely, this is one Microsoft partnership that stinks. Sonic's products are horrendous and support is nowhere to be found. |

Unfortuantely #3, it makes no difference.
I have done precisely what you've specified here, using all the applications above. I've captured to WMV, DV-AVI, MPEG-2, and other formats, used solely WMM to edit them, and authoring applications still screw up AV sync upon rendering into MPEG-2 format. If I want to make Video-CD's (puke), everything is just fine, however, authoring to DVD (MPEG-2) is an impossibility with the state of today's software. At least for the consumer... Sad. |
