Opera acknowledges Microsoft's decision to allow access for standard-compliant browsers. Opera Software ASA today welcomed Microsoft's quick about face on denying millions of Opera users access to their main Web portal, MSN. Microsoft's abrupt change of mind came after hostile reactions were reported in the media from many Opera users who had tried to access the site. Microsoft claimed that Opera users were denied entry because the Opera browser "doesn't support the latest XHTML standard," according to Bob Visse, MSN's director of marketing. "Opera's XHTML standard is of the highest quality," says Jon S. von Tetzchner, CEO of Opera Software ASA. "In fact, Opera is internationally acclaimed and renowned for its strict compliance with all international Internet standards. Maybe Microsoft should take a look at its lack of respect for the World Wide Web Consortium's (W3C) international Internet standards before bad-mouthing others." | ||

#2 was obviously out late last night and didn't get enough sleep before posting.
Opera is a decent browser, but it is nowhere near the best.. In fact it still lags behind the latest versions of IE and NS in terms of standards compliance, especially with DOM support, and in some CSS functions. The best browser available in terms of standards compliance is IE5.5 for the Macintosh. Which is kind of humourous, but anyway. There was an article about this in Infoworld a week or two ago, in case you need a reference. |

| As a web developer I don't want other browsers to see pages that I know for certain don't render the way I want them to. Lots and lots of people have two versions of their webpages one for NS and one for IE. From a cost perspective this takes a lot of people hours to do. I see nothing wrong with saying if you don't use this browser you can't read my file. As a content creator I can do anything that I want. There is no law saying I have to let everyone see my content. Look at AOL. The only way you get AOL content is by using their software. Why is it wrong for MSN to do the same thing? |

#9 where in the hell is the law that says I have to let you look at my content? If I could find a way to block all twit minded retards from my website you better believe I would do it. There is nothing wrong with MSN saying you have to use my browser or you won't see it.
Go find a tree and get started hugging it. |

Whatever 23 there is no law saying I have to let you look at my "content". In fact if anything there is a law that protects Microsoft on the books. You may have heard of it . . . its called free speech.
