Following court orders barring the Lindows name, Linux vendor Lindows.com Inc. has changed its name in several European countries to Lin---s, pronounced Lindash. By changing its name, Lindows.com can continue to offer its desktop Linux product to citizens of those countries where Microsoft Corp. won injunctions banning the Lindows name, Lindows.com said in a statement Tuesday. | ||

| I don't even understand what's Lindows' point is any more. They don't even include Wine any more. In the latest edition they have no support for Windows applications and now tell everyone to try OSS software. |

Lindows will ultimately be a failure. The LindowsOS is to different (interface, applications, etc) for most Windows users to tolerate/live with. As far as Linux users are concerned, most of us tend to look down on Lindows as a 'newbie' Linux variant. Why bother using an OS that feels so limited (and incorporates some of the same 'features' that irk us about Windows) when we've got Fedora, Mandrake, SUSE, Slackware, etc, etc, etc?? If any Linux vendor has MS scared right now, it's got to be SUSE. With the Novell merger they are poised to offer Microsoft some serious competition. |
