- SPECIAL: FolderMatch v3.3.8 FolderMatch compares and synchronizes two folder trees or two files. Winner at the 2002 & 2003 Shareware Industry Awards, it's a MUST-HAVE tool for keeping files and folders in sync as well as powerful insurance against loss of valuable data. Whether you're trying to keep files organized on a desktop computer, performing regular backups onto removable disks, synchronizing rapidly-changing laptop data with your main computer, or doing network administration file maintenance, FolderMatch offers one-button folder synchronization for the casual user, and a full range of sophisticated tools for the power user. At half-off the regular price for Lockergnome readers until Feb 1st, 2004, you can't afford not to own this product now.
- DOWNLOAD: PortQry Command Line Port Scanner v2.0PortQryV2.exe is a command line utility to help troubleshoot TCP/IP connectivity issues. Portqry.exe runs on Windows 2000based computers. The utility reports the port status of TCP and UDP ports on a computer you choose. It reports the status of the port in one of three ways: listening, not listening (typical!), and filtered. The utility can query a single port, an ordered list of ports, or a sequential range of ports.
- FEATURE: Online Comparison Shopping The word "shopping" brings horrific thoughts to the minds of men around the world. When faced with the decision of being attacked by rabies-infected circus clowns or going to the mall for the day, a large percentage of men would choose the first option. I personally have nightmares about my mom taking (dragging) me to the stores with her when I was younger. I am still haunted by the sound of the hangers scraping against the racks.

Well, it is, and will. As ActiveWin.com is on their site. If it was up to users choice', this site would have no ads, have a full time staff, and not use creative things to bring traffic between sites. Maybe the next partnership will be with the register....:-p

<ramble>It is a dilema. How do you support a site and keep users happy? Is it by alienating them by giving them content they don't want? Perhaps it is only the vocal minority that speaks. That other site (you know, it's starts with "n", has five more letters, and ends in ".net") doesn't have popups and is profitable (at least if their admins are to be believed). It seems there is a way. That is, come to think of it, is like Mac fans...insanely loyal even in the face of being DDOS'ed every few months. Curious....</ramble>

That othersite doesn't pay for their own server and line, it also has more visitors than this one does thanks to their old warezing days, we try to avoid popups as much as possible and tend to not have them unless a mistake is made selecting when selecting our adverts each week. On the whole we're providing a service that no one here gets paid for, we keep the site running well each month on the minimum of advertising, we don't get anything from the PayPal donate option, which we were asked to put up by users before to help us out instead of moving to more blatent options like popups, so we're doing our best to keep the site going.
If you don't like the way adverts are here, its best people do what they said they would and help the site keep going by donating, no one has, so options like this are what will crop up on the site and thankfully this is one that isn't causing any problems gathering by the click throughs both on from here and from lockergnome. On the whole we keep most users happy, yeah there will be a small minority like yourself who doesn't realise the costs of keeping a site like this going and trying to provide minimal adverts on a site, so of course, in all likelyhood we will carry on doing things this way, if it means alienating them then unfortunatly that's what we have to do to keep going.

Maybe the other site is more successful because they and their members don't burst a vein whenever non-Microsoft or non-favorable-to-Microsoft stories are posted. And these non-Microsoft stories or gneral tech stories frequently are the source of lively discussion.
Here: if it's unfavorable to MS, the only posting is a bunch of whinging or people refuse to address it entirely. If it's favorable to someone besides MS, people clam up or shout it down.
Frequently, technical or uninteresting stories just go without discussion or reading (just count the number of stories today with zero posts), so what's the problem with avoiding a story you don't like?

Blah blah. Don't like it, don't read it. We are not REDUCING the number of articles posted. This is in ADDITION to.

"Well, on the "other site", 90% of the comments for any story include "M$", "evil empire", or "Microshaft sucks!". Even if the story has nothing to do with Microsoft, IBM, Linux, or Open Source. "
I'd disagree with 90%. It's more like: the noise ratio increases a little bit with a more active community. At least it's not the same four people stroking each other and/or shouting down all things not softy.
