Another question. Has anyone ever seen an actual STREET update for this software? I've been using MapPoint on and off for about 2 years now, and I've never seen any sort of update for street changes.

monkeydog, yes. The last few versions of Streets & Trips have been a subset of MapPoint. The earliest versions were not (and it still bugs me that I can't have pushpin files the way I used to be able to) but now you can "scale" up from Streets & Trips to MapPoint without losing/changing anything. You gain the demographic stuff, plus programmability via COM Automation and ActiveX interfaces.
