New Year's prediction: Longhorn will never ship, but Microsoft Linux will. Even if I'm wrong, it's clear that software development is headed for a new place, and the end game that most observers saw even five years ago -- that MS would win it all -- doesn't seem as likely on the eve of 2004. That said, Microsoft isn't going to go away, in this author's opinion. | ||

"Clueless" isn't a strong enough word to describe how much clue this guy doesn't have.
In fact, I'm sure that he's just chocked full of anti-clue. If this guy met someone who actually had a clue, and they came in contact with each other, they would both instantly be obliterated and a massive amount of energy would be released. |

My New Year's prediction: Linux zealots will continue to be almost as dillusional as Mac zealots. Even if I'm wrong... You are. it's clear that software development is headed for a new place Sure. It's called .NET. and the end game that most observers saw even five years ago -- that MS would win it all -- doesn't seem as likely on the eve of 2004. End game? Huh? Is that like a deathmatch in Quake, or that bad Highlander movie? What the hell is this guy talking about? That said, Microsoft isn't going to go away, in this author's opinion. Wow. Now that's a prediction. 2003 was the year that Apache emerged the clear winner in the Web server wars How so? The vast majority of fortune 500 companies use Windows and IIS to host their sites. Apache dominates the closet web servers. Congrats. and enterprise Linux servers grew share at an impressive pace A pace that is still dwarfed by Windows Server sales. even as Microsoft announced a flat quarter and seemed to be having trouble making its new pricing stick. What Linux desktop? Which one? Who predicted this? What changes have occured recently in the Linux desktop that would suggest a movement like this? OH. I see the problem here. I'll give you a hint. It's looking entirely possible that Linux zealots may have set themselves up for a fall in the job markets with all these unrealistic predictions of the marketplace.
