Microsoft to offer bounty on hackers | |

Microsoft will announce on Wednesday that it will offer two $250,000 bounties for information that leads to the arrest of the people who released the MSBlast worm and the SoBig virus, CNET News.com has learned. The two programs attacked computers that run Microsoft's Windows operating system, causing havoc among companies and home users in August and September. The reward, confirmed by sources in both the security industry and in law enforcement, will be announced in a joint press conference with the FBI, the U.S. Secret Service and Interpol that's scheduled for 10 a.m. EST Wednesday. | ||

Wow, talk about a good idea.
Since one of the primary reasons hackers do what they do is for bragging rights, it's almost certain that they've spilled the beans at one point or another in a chat room some place. Hackers might think they have a community of some kind, and buddies who will back them up and not turn them in, but I've got news for 'em... $250,000 will make your hacker "friends" turn on you faster than a CPU can cycle. It's about time we started treating these people for what they are: criminals. |

| Why it's taken them this long to announce something like this is beyond me... but it's nice to see them put some money where only thier mouth has been. |
