Microsoft is trying to shed its geeky image by placing its products on trendy TV programmes like "24" and "The Wire" Microsoft is promoting its Windows products on popular TV shows like Fox's "24" and HBO's "The Wire," airing this autumn, as part of the software company's push to transform the PC's image from "geek to sleek." Microsoft formed a group last November to gain exposure for Windows products in sports and entertainment programming, according to Andy Ma, Microsoft's program manager for strategic placement.

I really like 24... My friend got the first series on DVD and we watched it all... now I got the second series and have watched a few hours. I wonder if they will still use all those macs. :)

"I never saw 24, but I know I don't like Macs!"
Wow, can I be as smart as you when I grow down? You'll ALWAYS see mor Macs in film and TV because they're used by the majority of studios and production houses. Plus they look a hell of a lot better than a black box Dell in the corner. Apple has style and class...Dell, Gateway, HP are uninspired and boring box makers. They offer nothing.
And for the record, if you pay attention to 24, the good guys use Macs and the bad guys use PCs. The third season, which starts this month is loaded with new Macs including G5s. Check out the preview on Fox's web site.
PS - yo ucan hack just fine on a Mac....it is UNIX after all. You may have heard of that...a real computer system that isn't built like swiss cheese.

Tagren--haha... shudder at the thought of seeing that video... I always wondered if Gates had some dance moves.... :D
Phaedrus... that's because there always has to be some fantasy element to tv. :P

#8 and #11, I had the same thoughts also.
It is even worse in music video! you can't go 2 seconds without seeing an Ipod.

My favorite product placing was the Bond movie... Goldeneye I think. They're at the secret evil villian base with the satellite dish, and all the computers are prominently displaying the "OS/2 Warp" logo...
Just as the whole place blows up.
:-)

What ever trips your trigger! (but I am guessing you will never be quite as smart as I ;-)
"You'll ALWAYS see mor Macs in film and TV because they're used by the majority of studios and production houses"
Ya think! But you should also make note that it's changing. In fact, Adobe has already created some new products that are Windows only, as well as proven stats offered by them that their products are faster on Windows. Many newspapers and magazine companies around the world have already switched to PCs.
"Apple has style and class...Dell, Gateway, HP are uninspired and boring box makers. They offer nothing."
I could care less what my box looks like. I just know mine is faster than a Mac, multitasks better, offers much more than a mac, and is less expensive.

Halcyon-X12 - I agree... Apple has their stuff on commercials all the time, and I still think they are toy computers. :-)
AWBrian - "I could care less what my box looks like."
Agreed. The reason I buy PCs is because they just work. I don't need peach keyboards and mauve mice.

Typical Apple... style over substance...
In computing, I'll take performance, productivity and compatability over style and looks any day of the week.
