That's the conclusion reached by an increasing number of technology companies. Both hardware makers, such as Hewlett-Packard, and software makers, such as Oracle, have been pledging devotion to the small- and midsize-business market. As large companies have clamped down on their tech spending, smaller firms have started to spend more, in part because the larger companies they deal with are demanding that they be more tech savvy. | ||

| There is a simple solution to the small business program that Microsoft just doesn't get.... Offer the entire suite of applicaitons on a monthly cost per user per month. Most small businesses don't have a pile of capital, and scheduling the payment based on usage over time is much better timed with their revenues. Microsoft went the opposite way with Software Assurance - they forced the businesses to pay upfront for the entire software PLUS another half for the next version. It has to be the other way around - count your staff and applications, and send us a check each month for $x times the staff times the application. Bundling a seperate product (Small Business Server) is not required for most small businesses because of the inability to scale the solution as the business grows. |

| If MS want to further penetrate the small biz market, thay should deal with the VARS that have the bulk of that business. I am always annoyed to read that H-P, and other large companies that make PC's that suck, always get MS's attention. |
