Microsoft weighs up Explorer changes | |

Microsoft told the Web's leading standards body that it's considering making changes to its Internet Explorer browser in light of a recent ruling against the company in a patent infringement lawsuit. The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) issued a statement on Thursday indicating that Microsoft is mulling its options after a federal court earlier this month found that plug-ins and applets in Internet Explorer (IE) infringed on patents held by Eolas Technologies and the University of California. The software giant was ordered to pay $521m (£329m) to the Web technology company and the university. | ||

Could be interesting. Surely as IE is used by so much of the market (am I right thinking about 90ish % ?) any changes would be far reaching.
And what about other browsers? Do they infringe patents also? And if MS DO make the changes, what about people who don't/won't/can't upgrade (downgrade in this case?) ? There's still people using IE 3.01 out there who aren't using 6.0 SP1 for whatever reason - are they gonna bother with a new version just coz what they have isn't 'ok' anymore? Or does anyone actually see anything coming of this? |
