Based on feedback from customers and partners Microsoft is committed to providing a 12 month roadmap of upcoming service packs and security rollup packages. The updated service pack roadmap chart details three key points: Due to feedback and reviews of the feasibility and usability of the Windows Security Rollup Packages, Microsoft has decided that we will not be releasing any further updates for Windows NT Workstation and Windows NT Server 4.xx in the foreseeable future. Windows XP (Professional and Home) Service Pack 2 will be released in mid-2004. The Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 release date has been moved from late-2003 to the first quarter of 2004. | ||

| That's interesting. My feedback to Microsoft is that that really should put out WinXP SP2 or a SRP before the end of the year, not mid-04. They certainly didn't base this decision on my feedback! |

| SP's are more heavily tested than hotfixes are. |

| sphbecker, the look and feel didn't change that much from Windows 95 through Windows 2000 and ME (although the GUI did gain a lot of nice functionality), so I'm not sure if updating the look and feel of XP is a high priority for Microsoft. |

| sphbecker, why even bother with an XP GUI update? I think that everyone agrees that unless it is something radical (which even you agreed that it wouldn't be) that we would rather wait for Longhorn. |

Microsoft - PLEASE reconsider releasing the IIS 6 Admin pack for XP seperate from SP2. Having to wait an entire year to administer IIS 6 from Windows XP is simply not acceptable.
