Microsoft considers making software updates automatic | |

Microsoft executives, digging out from the aftermath of an unwelcome Internet worm that wriggled into 500,000 of its customers' computers last week, said it's time to consider making software updates automatic for home users of the Windows operating system. The company is "looking very seriously" at requiring future versions of Windows to accept automatic software fixes unless the user specifically refuses to receive them, said Mike Nash, corporate vice president of Microsoft's security business unit. | ||

They can make it as automatic as they want, so long as _I_ have the FINAL say on what gets installed.

yeah, MS has about a 90% track record on good patches which isn't high enough for mandatory updates, but as long as you can turn it off and they actually present the user with the option to disable (even during setup, make it prominent), then I'm cool with it.
What they need is MS KickInTheAss 2003 to get people stop being retarded about computers and security. |

I've never personally experienced a bad patch, however....
Whether it auto-updates or not, the patch will get installed by either you or the auto-updater, how is it different having an auto-updater install a faulty patch as compared to you installing a faulty patch? The patch is faulty either way, and will still have to be uninstalled, or fixed, whatever. |
