Microsoft said last week that it continues to lose money in the gaming sector as it tries to gain ground on its Japanese competitors. The company said it has sold 9.4 million consoles since its launch. The Xbox is doing best in North America - with 6.2 million units sold - while it has sold 2.2 million units in Europe and 1 million units in Asia. Microsoft also has half a million subscribers to its Xbox Live online games service - which will begin charging monthly fees this year. Microsoft and its publishing partners are selling an average of five games for every console sold. Chief financial officer John Connors predicted the number of consoles sold during Microsoft's next fiscal year would be between 14.5 million to 16 million and the number of Xbox Live subscribers will grow to 1 million.
