Microsoft Will Give Shares, Not Options | |

Microsoft Corp., the granddaddy of stock option compensation, will abandon the practice and instead give shares outright to all employees. The software giant also said Tuesday it would expense the cost on its books, potentially knocking down profits by billions of dollars. The change in stock compensation means employees will automatically receive actual shares of Microsoft stock over time instead of options — the right to purchase stock at a set price. | ||

| It depends if your Country has signed with the US the treaty about the "Double taxation". If yes you only pay the difference, if any, between what you paid in the US adn what you shoul have paid in your Country. Furtermore, but this is something I am sure only about Italy, if you are phisically working abroad you only pay taxes in the Country where you are actually working. It is a long time that "fringe benefits" are subject to taxation. |

Stock Options were something basically corrupted by some of the less ethical companies. They were originally presented as a way to tie personal income to company performance, but when they started re-issuing options for executives at lower valuations and other games like that, this just went out the window.
Just pay bonuses based on performance. At our company we get a profit sharing bonus at the end of the year, if the company did well we get something. On top of that if your personal performance was signifigant that year you get even more. It works. Although I suspect if we ever plateau in the market, it'll change. |

moozila, that kind of tax is not limited to Europe. Its alive here in America too. Just ask anyone that has experienced the blessed Alternative Minimum Income Tax.
