Microsoft's MSN Search To Build Crawler-Based Search Engine | |

In April, news emerged that Microsoft intended to make a huge new investment in web search. Now signs of that investment are appearing. Microsoft's MSN Search site posted a large list of jobs in May, then drew much attention last month when official information about its own search spider "MSNBOT" was posted to the public. So what's the future for MSN Search? The details are still being determined, the service says. However, building its own crawler-based solution to gather editorial listings is seen as a key element needed to win in the search sweepstakes. | ||

| I really wonder what they plan to offer that Google already doesn't, or what technology ideas they have in mind. If they're merely building what Google already has, I can't see this taking much away from Google. Maybe that's not their direct intent? |

| It will take more than a search-button in IE for Microsoft to make this work. I am not shure wether they are trying to do something new here, but I guess we will just have to wait to see what they come up with... |

It's not only the search button.
If you write anything in the address bar of Internet Explorer, it will by default query MSN and list the results. |

The googlebar is a bloated piece of crap.
I don't know how their website can be so clean and minimalist and then they put out a hugely overbloated piece of software. Keep it simple, just add a search textfield, like in Mozilla Firebird or Safari. |
