Well, the internal debate over whether to deliver a Windows Server update in the Longhorn timeframe is apparently over. According to sources in and close to Microsoft, the software giant is now working on a version of Longhorn Server that will succeed Windows Server 2003 and precede Blackcomb. Longhorn Server will provide customers with the important core technologies from Longhorn, including a .NET-based user interface and graphics library called Avalon, a SQL Server "Yukon"-based file system add-on called Windows Future Storage (WinFS), and low-level anti-virus APIs, among other features. Currently, Longhorn Server is still considered a minor update, however, and not a major update like Blackcomb. | ||

Mr. Dee, where are you getting the dates from in #1? I'd have guessed it would be 2006 before we see another server release. FWIW, NT4 Server support expires at the end of 2004.
This is an example, though, of how Microsoft lets us know far in advance of their plans. Even if things get shuffled around a bit, this is still helpful knowledge for those that need to plan ahead, rather than if Microsoft kept this stuff secret until launch time. |

plz tell me how you would fight..it's like watching an argument unfold on IRC. You two are probably 100's of miles apart and you insist on acting like spoiled children. no wonder I can't be bothered to read forums or BB's on any site anymore. I want to go back to when BB's were run in the next town over and it was a local call to dial in on a 9600bbps modem and if somebody pissed you off, you didn't talk abuot it on the BB, cuase it took to long, you just drove over and knocked the guy out. |
