If you hear a different sound coming from Redmond today, it may be Microsoft lawyers singing the old John Denver song that starts "Almost heaven, West Virginia." Yesterday, West Virginia dropped its appeal of the landmark antitrust case against the software giant and reached a settlement in which it would receive $21 million in software, computers and cash. | ||

Ah soda, ever the liberal utopian idealist. Obviously you've never worked in or for state governments, have you? If so, you would know what macrosslover was talking about.
State governments are mostly filled with failures of human beings who couldn't make it in the real world and become beaurocrats who vote themselves larger salaries, but can never make decisions on anything (because making decisions could lead to failure and responsibility, and you CAN'T HAVE THAT as a beaurocrat). My wife worked for a state agency and they paid everyone miserably while the top 2-3 b'crats petitioned for more and more budget and granted themselves raises commensurate with the amount of money the budget increased. That's how it worked and that was that. The computer equipment will be spread so thin as to not help anyone, and the cash will either go to pay lobbyists/special interests, or be blown on entitlement programs, or some stupid feel-good campaign like anti-drug/smoking ads, or on an environment program has so little funding and support as to be worthless (note I'm not saying environmental programs are worthless, just some of the failures that various states attempt). I just think the assertion is ridiculous. It may or may not happen depending on the ethics of the individual employee. It has nothing to do with state government or private enterprise. |

There's a large state office building beside my office, and those wastes of space... arrive at work in droves at 9:30am and leave in droves at 4pm. Dont think for a second they skip lunch or a smoke break (50+ smokers outside the building at any given time). And is it just me, or are there like 30 paid state holidays each year. Seems like that many.

Taking this back to a higher level, as I stated earlier I can't believe that they held up the process for such a small amount. Someone should release a study showing how much the delay has cost the tax payers of that state.
Pilfering occurs every where and is based on the morals of the individual, not where he works. |

Soda lives in his own little world where he thinks he wins debates. In the last one he said he won, but I had a reply in which I proved about every one of his statements to be wrong or false, but this damned app puked and gave me a 500 server error (because it was too long) and I lost everything.
What Soda failed to realize, since he probably only has a public scrool education, is that my wife left the state after she realized what it was. So she wasn't a failure, she was a success, you see. She didn't get caught into the sucking spiral of endless government waste. She's now a very productive member of society and not a Comrade of the State, like Soda. I know it's hard for you to imagine Soda -- that someone would actually like to be an individual and succeed on their own without the help of the State and government entitlement programs, but there are a large number of us out here who don't want a single controlling communist/socialist utopia government where everyone works for the State and is equally miserable. Regardless, whether or not I'm right that bigger government will eventually collapse on itself, Soda still pushes for increasing government size, entitlement programs, and the budget, so who really wins in the end? No, I would say the real dolt is the maroon who called his own wife a failure of a human being. I would have thought that the lesson would have been clear, but no you keep making sweeping accusations without regards to the facts, which causes you to place yourself in positions of illogic that you struggle to get yourself out of. I mean look at your drivel. You've call me a Communist at least three times in that post. Yet I've written extensively on this site my political and economic views and I love to see how you struggle to reconcile my support for strong free-market capitalism equating to Communism. I have two pieces of advice: Either stop bringing up politics. Or start doing some research, so that you know and understand the facts and can argue from an intelligent point of view. The failures are the people who either never realize it, or realize it and stay in. The only one looking stupid here is you, since apparently you can't read, or you choose not to. Jagged: And you do realize that most Republicans are actually slightly socialist? Wow, that's priceless. I should make that my signature! Do you even know what socialism is? Merriam-Webster defines it as: any of various economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods. Democrats/liberals generally hate corporations and tend towards centralizing administration and creating monopolies (phone companies, etc). Republicans/conservatives generally want less centralized administration and want deregulation and let the free market play itself out. Yes, there are compromises, like the SEC and FTC. Any rational person realizes that SOME regulation needs to happen, but nationalizing 1/7th or 1/8th of the economy into a unified health care system (Hillary Care, or now Gephardt Care), fits the definition of socialism. Also, Jagged, I tend to believe that you're not the one who spammed my email with "ACTIVE IF FULL OF A**HOLES LIKE YOU", but now I"m not so sure. It was from jaggedflame@hotmail.com. Was that you? |

You didn't say some government employees were failures, you said they all were and implied that anybody who took a job with the government was the low life scum of the earth. For years the lumber and steel industries have been complaining about unfair competition resulting from a over supply of lumber and steel on world markets. Lumber primarily from Canada... Steel primarily from Europe and Asia. They lobbyed former President Clinton endlessly for years, demanding he implement protectionist tariffs to counter act these industries inability to compete. President Clinton rebuffed these efforts. On the other hand, in his first year of office President Bush implemented protectionist tariffs on both Steel and Lumber imports. Explain to me how Republicans are for less government and free market when they are implementing protectionist tariffs, whereas Democrats are for the exact opposite. This is your ONE chance. If you can take this challenge and form a logical argument which supports your contention, I will admit publicly in this forum that you are the smartest man in the world and I am wrong that Democrats are nothing but pinko commie liberals and Republicans are the greatest thing in the world since sliced bread. The Fact is... You cannot do that. There is no way to form a logical argument which reconciles your preconceived notions regarding the politics of the parties with their actual actions. Now an intelligent person would use the scientific method here, and understand that when the experimental observations do not meet up with the hypothesis, that it is the hypothesis which needs to be corrected. The debate is over, daz... You lost. Admit it, move on and stop bringing up politics. |
