MS Windows Server 2003 download leak? | |

Microsoft seems to be leaking code again - a link at http://download.microsoft.com passed to The Register allows free access to what appears to be an ISO image of Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition. The file, x09-22207.iso, is known to have been accessible since last weekend, and as it was still available this morning we presume the link is not yet widely known of. Or perhaps cared about. The file appears to be connected to the Windows 2003 Server eval programme. That expires after 180 days, and needs to be activated after 14. Eariler this year Microsoft also contrived a leak of a Server 2003 activation key earlier this year. Microsoft has a long history of being unable to keep a lid on direct links to this class of file, and traditionally leaks the location of service pack downloads for the convenience of geeks prior to the the official release date. | ||

Wait. So is it a full version or the eval?
If it's the eval, then what the hell is the Register talking about? |

I was wondering the same darn thing. A very misleading article to say the least. First they say it appears to be an ISO of WSK03 EE, then they say it appears to be connected to WSK03 Eval which expires.

| It doesn't matter either way. You need license key to use full or eval copy. MS couldn't careless who downloaded what copies of Win2k3 as long as the license key is not leaked out. |

The ISO is an evalation version of server 2003 enterprise edition, so the register is right in that respect. But the url is published by microsoft, it's not a "leak". Apparently the register has never heard of the microsoft dl center.

Eariler this year Microsoft also contrived a leak of a Server 2003 activation key earlier this year.
I was not an English major in college, but even I can spot bad writing. Oh, wait. This is from the reg, they have bad writing in more ways than one. |

| This has been there for ages, and if you register yourself Microsoft sends you the eval license key. Where is the leak? |
