Sun Unveils Java Roadmap Through "Mustang" | |

Executives at Sun Microsystems on Tuesday offered a glimpse of its Java roadmap through 2006, when its "Mustang" revision is scheduled to debut. Sun's desktop Java platform, the Java 2 Standard Edition (J2SE), is being designed to mimic and incorporate the look and feel of Windows XP, as well as one of its more convenient features: automatic updates. Sun's goal is to push its Java Virtual Machines onto as many PCs as possible, executives said. | ||

Sun: Ah... it's nice and comfortable up here.
Microsoft: We're going to challenge you with .NET! Be prepared Sun: HAHAHAHA ROFL KK GG THX!!111 (2 years later) Microsoft: Look, here's .NET, we're going to blow your socks off! Sun: HAHAHAHA yeah, whatever (Sun releases a point release which is indistinguishable from previous releases) (People start adopting .NET like crazy and Java sales/adoption is way down and declining) Microsoft: We told you to prepare. Sun: Um... ur... .NET is just a cheap knock-off of Java! BOOO!!! (Sun finally picks up the glacial release pace to try to catch up with .NET) Sorry Sun, it's too late. The downward slide is already in good motion and there's too much momentum to stop it now. You sat and did nothing for years with Java while MS created, updated and released .NET, VS.NET 2002, .NET 1.1, and then VS.NET 2003. .NET 2.0 and VS.NET 2004/5 are well in the pipe. What's one compelling thing in this new Java release? That it looks "like" Windows XP? That it loads a little faster than previous versions? Big whoop. Why would I use Java? |

Because it is not from Microsoft and Linux is going to rule the world. Never mind the fact that .Net is a better solution/development tool(s) and Linux has a desktop market share of 1%. |

| #6: cba: If you're using Java in spite of .NET and Microsoft, then you're probably using Linux as well because masochism is your thing. You can't be partly an ABMer, it's an all or nothing proposition. |
