I built RAID systems for Mac's for almost 10 years. It's astonishing to me that the Level-0 RAID systems that we spent $4000 for, and fought to get 10MB/Sec out of in 1994/1995 are thoroughly whooped by simple IDE hard drives moving data at 40MB/Sec + speeds these days. For about $99 LOL!
I also remember my very first hard drive. It was a 15MB (Yes, MEGAbyte) system for a TRS-80 Model 4. It cost $2795.00 in 1983/4 and was bigger than a breadbox :) In 1987 I bought a whopping 40MB drive for the Mac BBS I ran in San Diego, CA. It cost me like $500. It wasn't bigger than a breadbox, but it was as noisy as a washing machine :) TL |
