My gut feel is that Oracle buying Peoplesoft is a bad move.
It's much like Novell buying WordPerfect... this puppy is going to lose value and drag Oracle with it. |

The problem is, except for Microsoft, the enterprise software market is all but completely dried up. Hardly any company is buying SAP, Seibel, PeopleSoft, Oracle 9i app services, etc anymore.
OTOH, People are buying Windows 200x Advanced and DataCenter Server, SQL Server, Exchange, etc. Why is that? So Oracle buying PeopleSoft is like Arthur Anderson buying Enron. It doesn't matter because they're both extinct or dying. |

SAP, Seibel, Peoplesoft, etc are vertical markets. They serve a specific purpose. The other products from Microsoft you mention are horizontal general purpose infrastructure markets that you leverage to create vertical solutions.
