Microsoft's use of aggressive sales practices to defeat competition for other operating systems, namely the open-source Linux platform, have put the company in potential hot water again. Already under the microscope in Europe for alleged anticompetitive behavior, the company's business practices have been criticized again following a report in The International Herald Tribune last week detailing internal company e-mails and memos that indicated Microsoft would offer steep discounts to take business away from cheaper competitors, including Linux. | ||

| MS built their 50 Billion Dollar fortune, if they want to spread it around by lowering the cost of their software then so be it. I mean since Linsux is going to take over the world in the next month, according to some reports, MS has to be able to adapt their business model to compete with the all powerful Linux. |

if MS is only offering these discounts to a select few and not everybody (even if they ask) then although it may be legal (i'm not well versed on current monolopy/politics law) it doesn't seem fair.
-- If that is wrong, then my company is wrong. And so is LITERALLY 95% of the companies out there. Targeting SPECIFIC customers with price cuts is VERY legitimate and VERY fair. It simply means that Microsoft has made a strategic decision to get/keep those customers. This is just another example of Microsoft blowing their nose and the reporters begin reporting typhoon-like conditions in Washington State. |

Am I not right in saying that dropping prices is an effect of competition?
If Microsoft gets in trouble for this, it will be a SERIOUS wrong-doing. It then gets to the point of trying to tear apart Microsoft for simply being too successful. |

I do agree with macrosslover a bit... MS should cut prices across the board in a uniform manner. Otherwise if they are seen to give discounts to people who claim to be looking at Linux, this will just drive more people to claim they are looking at Linux.
It's bad publicity. |
