A Los Angeles man is suing Microsoft Corp. and Best Buy Co. Inc., saying the companies fraudulently charged Best Buy customers for MSN Internet access accounts they never signed up for. The lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court, seeks to be certified as a class-action complaint. | ||

I'm going to have to call BS on this one. It seems quit amazing that simply scanning the CD along with swiping the card allowed the them to retrieve all the information needed to setup an MSN account. Not to mention they wouldn't know if the when the trial started or ended simply by when the person scanned the CD.
Furthermore, I too received a MSN CD at Best Buy, it was scanned, and I have yet to be charged. It sounds to me like the people started the trial and continued using it or something. I never used an MSN trial so maybe someone can post what happens when you sign up for the trial. Is it enter your info and credit card and cancel if you don't want to continue using MSN at the end of the trial or do you not have to enter and credit card info etc? |

Maybe I haven't been following this whole thing close enough, but isn't this one guy the only person complaining? Do we even know that this happened to more than one person? I've never read a single story where anyone claimed that this is happening to a wide variety of people - so why is this becoming a class-action suit?

| I think it depends... Was it part of some dictated policy, perhaps the contract with Microsoft. Or was it just the case of some lone Best Buy employees doing something wrong? |
