When developers started installing Visual FoxPro 8, some of them took the time to read the end-user license agreement, or EULA. One phrase caught their attention. Section 11.1 reads: "Upgrades. To use a version of the Software identified as an upgrade, you must first be licensed for the software identified by Microsoft as eligible for the upgrade. After upgrading, you may no longer use the software that formed the basis for your upgrade eligibility." | ||

#1, nice analogy, but if I was being picky, I'd say that if I originally has 256MB and asked the shop to upgrade it to 512MB, then there wouldn't be an old 256MB DIMM cos they would've put 256MB in to make-up 512MB in total.
And even if they did, because there wasn't any slots free left, you're entitled to the old 256MB DIMM back because it's your property. They can't keep it at all. So as you can see, in the 1st example I have given above, you would pay for 256MB, while in the 2nd example above, you'd pay for 512MB. Of course, a half-decent shop would tell you before they upgrade what they needed to do to your machine. However, I do accept that software is different and fully agree with your comments. |

| Any software company that only purchase upgrade license for their development tools won't stay alive for long. This topic is rediculus. If your current company is doing so, I advise you get your resume ready. |
