Office XP now runs on Linux | |

Users are now able to run Office XP on Linux, following the release of a commercial application that allows the package to run on the open source operating system. The CodeWeavers package now supports the full Office XP suite, with the exception of Outlook XP and Access XP. Outlook 2000 and Access 2000 are supported. The package plugs in to the standard Gnome or KDE Linux Graphical User Interfaces. Codeweavers claims seamless interoperability between the Microsoft Office suite and the free operating system. | ||

Oh geez, they can't even get the naming convention right! It's Outlook 2002 and Access 2002, NOT Outlook XP and Access XP. XP is the name of the Office Suite as a whole. Each individual Office Appliation is titled with 2002 or 10.

These guys amaze me! On one hand they hate Microsoft on the other they are extending MS's market share and reach by extending MS office to other platforms.
umm…if saving money is your primary concern why not run StarOffice or OpenOffice.org (whatever it is called these days). | Who in their right mind would pay $400+ for Office XP and then $50 to get just that program running (barely) on a free operating system? If you're going to go cheap by using Linux, why go with the most expensive office suite? |

MS Product Support: Hello, how may I help you? User: Outlook does not run on my computer. MS Product Support: OK, can you tell me what version of Windows are you using? User: Oh, I would never run Windows, I only use Linux. I use CodeWeaver to run Office XP on top of Linux. MS Product Support: I'm sorry sir, Office is only supported when run on Windows. <The next day> Slashdot, news.com, & ZDNet headlines: Microsoft stifles free speech of innocent people <3 months later> Lawyer: Your honor, this is clear and indisputable evidence that Microsoft is a vile monopoly. They have taken the hard earned money of my meek, mild-mannered client, and oppressed him by tying the use of the Office program to their Windows operating system, a product which was proven in a court of law to hold an illegial monopoly. I demand that Microsoft be put out of business, thus stopping their crimes against humanity, that all it's executives be sent to jail for life sentences, and their employees be shackled to their computers until they produce a free, open source version of all their software which runs on all operating systems, even the Commodore PET. |

Mr. Dee, where have you been for the last 5 years? Microsoft's competitors are using (trying) the legal system as their R&D. I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to take a case like that to court.
Aren't they trying to sue Microsoft because Microsoft won't certify some wack job's qwest to run Linux on the Xbox? Another example is Sun: 1. Take MS to court to remove Java from Windows. 2. Take MS to court because MS removed Java from Windows. |

I'd like to share a revelation that I've had during my time here. It came to me when I tried to classify Linux as an operating system. I realized that it is not actually a operating system. Every operating system on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment, but Linux does not. You move to an area, and you multiply, and multiply, until every user is converted. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. A virus. Linux is a disease, a cancer of this planet, Linux is a plague, and Microsoft is the cure. |

I think people who advocate Mac's should put their money where their mouth is and buy a dozen of 'em!
Only then will Apple's marketshare grow about 3%. |
