Channel partners are miffed that Microsoft's Exchange 2000 won't run on Windows Server 2003. Just two days before that operating system is to be released, partners are complaining about incompatibilities between Windows Server 2003 and existing Microsoft server applications installed at many customer sites. For instance, neither Exchange 2000 nor Internet Information Services 5.0 will run on Windows Server 2003. SQL Server 2000 will run on Windows Server 2003 only with Service Pack 3 deployed, partners sources say. | ||

| Yeah, and this has been known all thoughout the beta... this isn't a new development. Between architectural and security changes, some older software is bound to break. That's how things work. |

The new 64 bit version of SQL Server... It won't run on Windows 2000! |

I wonder how my installation of SQL Server 2000 SP2 has been running on 2k3 RC1 and RC2 then??? It also worked just fine before applying the service pack... and they run better than ever! #10: I was shocked too when I installed RTM and then it wouldn't let me install SQL 2K without clicking through a few warnings.
So I installed, then promptly installed SP3 and all was well. |

Not supporting E2k on W2k3 may slow the adoption is rate a little but I applaud MS's effort to not compromise the security of W2k3.
And I am sure that if MS had made them compatible every news site and Microsoft basher would have complained that "Microsoft STILL compromises security for features". |

Well, if Exchange 2K is so bad and so insecure as that it shouldn't be run under Server 2003, what makes it so magically good and secure under Server 2000 ?
It seems to me that if it's so bad, everyone should stop using it immediately! TL |

| Its going to take a few months to test 2k3 before you fully deploy it anyway and then e2k3 will be out. This is a major step forward for MS. They have to stop being backward compatable eventually. IT`s have to commit themselves to learn new technology not still cling to old MS-Dos shortcuts becuase it`s easier. If you learned the new tech that would eventually be easier too. |

According to the links *I* provided, even Microsoft said that Exchange Server 2000 is NOT supported on the RTM of Windows Server 2003, only on Windows Server 2003 AD.
