Because this firmware is not yet available on Microsoft's Broadband Networking website, it should be considered beta. It is not yet an official release.
This release updates the firmware of the
following products to version 1.09
- Microsoft Broadband Networking 10/100 Ethernet Wired
Base Station MN-100
- Microsoft Broadband Networking 802.11/Wi-Fi Wireless
Base Station MN-500
- Microsoft Broadband Networking 802.11/Wi-Fi Wireless
Desktop Kit MN-610
- Microsoft Broadband Networking 802.11/Wi-Fi Wireless
Notebook Kit MN-620
Notes
- Firmware is the software code inside your networking
device. This firmware update is only for Microsoft Ethernet and wireless
base station products. Network adapter updates are downloaded separately
- This update does not modify any software on your
computer.
- This update will not update a base station in bridging mode.
Important:
-
To complete the installation by using the following instructions, you must have the Microsoft Broadband Network Utility installed on the computer you're updating the firmware from.
- During an update, all devices connected to the network temporarily lose network functionality. Make sure to close any open Internet applications or VPN connections while updating your firmware.
For more information, check out the Microsoft Broadband Networking newsgroup.

Some more Info from Readme (The complete Readme can be found in the newsgroups, attached to the original firmware post):
Who should install this update?
This firmware update makes the following changes. You should only install the update if you have experienced related problems.
Improves protection against the Targa3 exploit.
Enables users to access servers on their local area networks (LANs) by using their wide area network (WAN) address, or URL. This is also known as “loopback” mode.
Increases the number of entries in the port forwarding table from 20 to 50, to help prevent the problems that can occur when the port forwarding table fills up.
Improves client filtering by providing more flexibility in setting the start and end times at which certain computers are blocked from accessing the Internet.
Includes the option to show or hide your Service Set Identifier (SSID), the value that uniquely identifies your network. (Applies to the Microsoft Broadband Networking Wireless Base Station MN-500 only.) If you are using a Microsoft Wireless USB Adapter MN-510 or Wireless Notebook Adapter MN-520, and you choose to hide the SSID, you must let Microsoft Windows XP manage your wireless settings and manually enter the SSID.
Increases the number of different types of events recorded in the log file. For more information, see the later section, “Viewing and Interpreting the Base Station Log.”
Resolves problems relating to failure to respond to Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) requests and long Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet (PPPoE) entries. This improves connection reliability.
This release also includes the changes that were originally made available with the Service Pack 1 release:
Improves the processing and reliability of wireless connections.
Changes the default beacon data rate, to improve the reliability and range of wireless connections with poor signal strength. This modification does not alter the data transfer throughput rate.
Improves the 10/100 MB auto-speed negotiation process, to resolve the Ethernet connection problem that occurred with some network adapters under certain circumstances.
Improves Ethernet switch programming, to resolve the Ethernet connection problem that occasionally resulted in no communication for all Ethernet ports.
Changes the processing of wireless connections that use 128-bit Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP), to improve the throughput of those connections.
Improves the processing of UPnP commands, to resolve the problem that occasionally caused the base station to reset.
Which operating systems are compatible with this release?
This firmware release can be installed from computers that are running the following Microsoft operating systems:
Windows XP Home
Windows XP Professional
Windows Me
Windows 98 SE
Windows 98

To update the base station firmware:
Important
To complete the installation by using the following instructions, you must have the Microsoft Broadband Network Utility installed on the computer you're updating the firmware from.
During an update, all devices connected to the network temporarily lose network functionality. Make sure to close any open Internet applications or VPN connections while updating your firmware.
1. Click the following link to open the File Download dialog box.
http://download.microsoft.com/download/7/f/d/7fd85bb4-9860-4096-a796-cd508505ed74/MSBNDownload.exe
2. Do one of the following:
o To launch the update automatically, click Open.
o To copy the update file to your computer, click Save.
If you save the update to your computer, you will need to finish the download and then double-click the downloaded file before proceeding.
3. The update will automatically detect your base station and begin the update process.
4. When prompted, enter the base station password. This is the password you created when you ran the Setup Wizard. If you did not run the Setup Wizard, use the default base station password of admin.
While the firmware is being saved to your base station, the power light on the base station blinks and then turns orange. When the light turns back to solid green, the update is complete.
If you want to open the Base Station Management Tool to confirm that your update was successful, use your Internet browser again to log on to http://192.168.2.1 and enter your base station password. Do not attempt to log on until the firmware update is complete and the power light on the base station is solid green.
If the update fails, the power light will continue to blink slowly until you successfully update the firmware. You can try to update the firmware again, or you can reset the base station.

I'm the one that posted the story. I'm not whoring, I'm trying to give as much info as possible to help people decide whether to upgrade now or wait for the official release. There's no web link to the readme and I didn't want to include it in the post because of the size, so I included it here since the main people commenting in this section would be those interested in this update. Though not the most elegant solution, it's currently my best option.
BTW, I try to stay as far away from Slashdot as possible ;-)
