Contrary to popular opinion, Linux is not currently getting most of its converts from the Unix space, according to Evans Data Corp.'s new Linux Development Survey. Although Linux may have initially drawn converts from the Unix community the survey found that more than half of Linux developers, 52%, used to primarily target the various forms of Windows, 30% of developers came from some form of Unix. Linux's top three strengths, as chosen by developers, are; stability, the fact that Linux is open source and cost. The open source aspect and low price tag - often free -- are going to make it difficult for any competing proprietary commercial product. | ||

| #14 You DO target Windows, and you're kidding yourself if you think otherwise. Yes you can tell me all about other OS being free to support the CLR but it will not occur becuase you are always bound to use some windows-specific feature. So keep kidding yourself that you're targeting anything other than Windows! (Not that targetting Windows is in any way a bad thing... just pointing out that you are only targetting Windows). And no mono and dotGNU will not support everything that you are bound to use, e.g WinForms, and if they choose to reimplement WinForms using GTK+ or some other toolkit then it will not be the same as the app running on windows. |

kabuki - Every machine around me runs Windows. Every machine at my company runs Windows. Every machine owned by friends runs Windows.
Why would I care if I target Windows and not other platforms? It's not like I own an Amiga any longer. |
