Thanks to Andre for this link!
Just a few shots of the Leaked successor to XP (alpha stage). These are some screenshots of Longhorn in action (well, action compared to the boring default screenshots i've seen every where else) , hopefully giving you a glimpse that its more than just an alpha ;-)

I agree with #3 - I don't see any compelling reason to upgrade just from looking at the screenshots - but then again I haven't used the product yet either. Maybe there are significant performance improvements???

Chris, the winsupersite link yesterday (?) said that the boot up and install times were dramatically improved, so perhaps they did make some great changes, but I still don't see any reason to leave XP either.

James, your points are valid but I didn't think that I was having such a big problem finding files. Also from what I am hearing I don't think that it will be fully available in Longhorn, this has to be something gradual. Keep in mind that if they muck that up then they loose all respect. Granted that it is still early in the process but I am hoping that they offer something more than the Win95 GUI.
It's hard to get exciting when nothing substantial is offered.

JamesWjRose, I don't doubt that storing files in the DB has its advantages. But you speak as if we are thumbing around in the dark trying to find stuff right now.
Then there is the next step once we get into a DB-File system, which is we stop using specific applications and get to using objects. A Word processing object, a picture editing object, etc. This kills off the Desktop metaphore as I see it and moves us to a single 'application' enviroment. Where we call up data reguardless of what type it is and edit/read it in once space.
Having a single application model instead of several. Didn’t MS just announce a universal viewer? So clearly this is possible without longhorn.
Regarding the UI, as I have said several times in the past: I can’t believe that the Win95 GUI is the end of everything. I don’t believe that there isn’t something more radical. I am just sick of seeing it, almost 10 years already. I really wish that they would release something more radical. Why not release something for some of us that are more experimental and no I don’t mean a new skin.

anyweb, those pics reveal nothng new so don't get too happy. Maybe a new version # or something but nothing really significant. And oh yeah, welcome to the site. Post #1 is always a thrill (no longer a virgin).
My good man, dig deeper and get us some cooler pics.

Anyweb, please no teasers I not going there unless you deliver.
Out of curiosity, for those that feel that the interface is old and needs to be updated, do you have any suggestions for an improved UI?
Actually, no I don’t but I don’t spent over 2 billion dollars a year on research either. I am not saying that UI is not functional. I am not saying that there is something better on market (they are all about the same Win95/Apple looking).
All that I saying is that I can’t believe that MS hasn’t released something with XP for those of us that crave something else.
Oh god JWM, only the GUI issue. Otherwise don’t consider me like you or SodaJerk.

JamesWjRose, I am an MCSD and currently on the path to my MCAD. So I to am familiar with DB (sql server to be specific). And yes put everything in the DB is great way go, I am not arguing against that. All that I am saying...what the hell am I say (it's late and the Baileys Irish cream is kicking in). Oh yeah, the silver them in XP is cool but the UI is stale.
2 billion + in research has to yield something very cool.

Fanon, who said anything about not having the old UI? Keep the "classic win UI" for those that want it but offer something for radical for users like yourself.
