To play a bigger role in the development of computers — as well as software — Microsoft has formed a major new division to produce specialized versions of Windows and build prototypes of computers of the future. Called the Extended Platforms Division, the group has 900 employees assembled from the Windows, research and business-productivity divisions. It also includes industrial designers and evangelists who will pitch the concept computers to manufacturers. | ||

| Ummm isnt that what the article says? Its just like the media center or tablet pc's. MS came up with a hardware reference design and got their OEM's to deliver them. |

RedAvenger's right. This is no different than what MS and Intel have been doing for years. They are now putting more resources towards it and customizing the OS for different usage scenarios.
MS isn't going to sell PCs. They are (and have been) researching and providing reference designs for future PCs and accessories that OEMs can deliver to the market. |
