SCO's desperate move won't help anyone—except Microsoft | |

THE BIG NEWS last week was pretty obvious. It was a lawsuit against IBM by seminal Unix vendor Santa Cruz Operation (SCO) (which was purchased by Linux vendor Caldera back in 2000) concerning its intellectual property rights around Linux and Unix. It could be months or years before all the fallout settles around this one, but one thing is clear: it isn't good for Linux. | ||

parker, don't be ridiculous. There are possible side effects from this case solely in perception, but everyone views SCO's claim as a joke--IBM, the Linuxes, Sun, everyone. Hell, Suse is considering breaking their relationship with them simply because they do not want to be tainted by the pathetic image of SCO's actions.
If there was anything like stealing IP involved in Linux, this would be the case, wouldn't it? Guess what: there is not a single copyright or patent violation to this claim? How can that be if Linux stole IP? Oh, yeah, this is a pathetic, ridiculous claim that SCO nor you could ever hope to back up. |
