MICROSOFT SET FOR BIOWARE SWOOP? | |

Microsoft is in the process of acquiring acclaimed Canadian developer BioWare, according to internal sources operating at the highest levels. Compelling evidence has been brought to our attention which suggests that the deal was almost certainly in place before last Christmas, and current chatter points to the acquisition being announced towards E3. A highly placed inside source told us: "There was definitely a press release drafted by Microsoft for the deal before Christmas. It basically announced the fact that Microsoft had acquired BioWare - it was all ready to go." | ||

Robin Mayne, BioWare developer says in this posting (http://nwn.bioware.com/forums/viewtopic.html?topic=199692&forum=42) that MS is NOT buying BioWare. Tom Ohle here (http://nwn.bioware.com/forums/viewtopic.html?topic=199422&forum=42#1695847) says the same thing: no. I take that as true until proven otherwise. aosgood, that's incredible. Considering dev'ers are just finding out the architecture and programming needs right now at the GDC, I've got to think this story is very wrong.
Though mid-2004 sounds doable and would still be ahead of the pack as far as I've heard. Most stories put PS3 in 2005. |

Slightly off topic, has anyone here played FreeLancer yet? Is it all it's cracked up to be? It reminds me slightly of an old (and I mean OLD) game called Starfighter on the TRS-80 Model 1 (told you it was old :)) that was really quite fun. It was amazing what they did with graphical elements that were no smaller than 1/8" square pixels and totally B&W :) I believe it was either a Scott Adams game, or maybe Big-5 Software (what ever happened to those genius's?) "Sony to Introduce PlayStation 3 in 2003, Commercial Times Says By Alan Patterson Tokyo, March 10 (Bloomberg) -- Sony Corp., the world's second- largest consumer-electronics maker, will introduce the PlayStation 3 video-game console this year, two years ahead of schedule, to widen its lead over rivals, the Commercial Times said, citing unidentified people at Taiwanese parts suppliers. Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. of Taiwan, which assembles the PlayStation 2 for Sony, and other parts suppliers on the island will start trial production next month, the report said. Sony may start selling the PlayStation 3 in Japan as early as midyear and overseas by the end of the year, the report said. The PlayStation 3 will use an unidentified processor different from the PlayStation 2 chip, which is made by Toshiba Corp., the report said. Calls to the public relations department of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc., Sony's game unit, were not answered. Tokyo-based Sony, in collaboration with International Business Machines Corp. and Toshiba, is developing a new processor capable of handling sophisticated graphics and sound over the Internet.
