Cute, Red, do you mean I'm more illogical than this bullsh!t:
"Yes, the Register does suck but in this case they are just reporting the facts from Apple. So it's Apple that sucks."
Let's count the "FACTS":
1. "Apple lawyers clearly belong to the reptilian genus, for winter finds them at their most productive." WRONG. Getting approved in Winter means the USPTO has been busy--these Patents were submitted between Fall of 2001 up to February 2003.
2. "They certainly haven't been idle in recent weeks." WRONG. Apple lawyers haven't done "anything" (related to this) beyond the norm in recent weeks--a guy at Mac Observer was busy searching for all recently approved patents recently.
3. "a blizzard of patent activity since the new year that must be quite unprecedented in Apple's history." WRONG. Apple has similar design patents for the original Classic Trashcan, window widgets and other look-and-feel elements. This is standard fare for Apple.
4. "The desktop Trash Can, window buttons, dialog boxes and a task scheduler have all been claimed as Apple Intellectual Property in a snowstorm of greedy patent filings." WRONG. Snowstorm? There are many patents here that have been filed over a period of over a year and a half. A year and a half snowstorm?
4. "The computer pioneer has decided, posthumously, to lay claim to lots of stuff that it err, … invented twenty years ago." WRONG. Design patents do not address the invention of a utility. They address appearances, look-and-feel. The OS X Trashcan has existed for a little over two years.
5. "They name the incumbent CEO as "inventor" on items such as the iPod. (Yes, the hard-disk based MP3 player is now an Apple invention, so don't you dare make one.): WRONG. Design patents, people! Does anyone doubt that Steve had final say about each and every design detail no matter how small (whether it be the mirror-backing, the lack of a clip, etc...)? They have a design patent on the iPod, not a utility patent on portable music players.
Yet your logic causes you to post: "Yes, the Register does suck but in this case they are just reporting the facts from Apple. So it's Apple that sucks." All of a sudden the Reg is the model of fact checking, journalistic integrity.
Hmm, could that be why you abandoned your silly comments under that story and moved to here to insult me? I wonder.
