AMD names next Athlon after Windows XP | |

AMD is taking its lead from the Beast of Redmond, and in a desperate bid to imply new, relevant and up-to-date technology, will name its next desktop processor the Athlon XP - after Microsoft's new version of Windows. So says an item over at DigiTimes - which seems more interested in the advantages the new chip brings to mobo makers than this blatant attempt to cash in on someone else's product. Not only that, but a sign that AMD - and the PC-oriented chip industry in general - is desperately praying the launch of Windows XP in October will revive flagging sales and bring an end to what has been thus far a dire trading year. | ||

You have got to be kidding me.
Two absolutely stupid things in one page on Activewin. 1) That AMD is naming a chip after an OS. And they call this MARKETING??? 2) That people *CARE* who is first post in response to these messages? You people desperately need lives...DESPERATELY. |

| I like the name. And I like AMD. I think it was a good move on AMD's part. I can't wait till they come out with their 2 GHZ chips. |

#19 - this is a news article on The Register site. We post links to news stories, if this was our own story then I would agree with you, it isn't so there isn't really any need to have a go at us about it. | Then people should read the name of the source, we've always posted register articles and probably always will due to them being the most read articles on the site, if people don't want them on here then the best thing to do is not click on them. |
