Microsoft Corp. founder and chairman Bill Gates said on Friday the software giant had signed a deal to give the Chinese government controlled access to its source code. "The most important contract we find during this trip is the GSP agreement," Gates told a news conference, referring to its government security program. "That actually has zero dollars of revenue associated with it because it's a free thing, but I'd say it's a very important thing," he said with a chuckle. | ||

| Is anyone else a little worried that China might have no problems incorporating MS source code and concepts into their Linux development? |

| bluvg the concept of Windows or any part of it aren't exactly top secret. I am sure that they follow standard object oriented techniques. And won't anyone be able to look at China's verison of Linux and see code commented by Bill Gates ;) |

| From the aspect of Windows API, I would say majority of Windows OS code is C not C++ and definitly not object oriented. |

| I guess it is just 'officially' China now has access to the windows source code. I'll bet it has the source code long before BillG even know. |

Linux's legal status is already in question due to the lack of concern for possible patent violations in contributed code. Adding Windows code may simply provide a more obvious target for attack. This post was edited by n4cer on Friday, February 28, 2003 at 23:38. |
