The next time you see Microsoft software developers showing off their latest invention, the question to ask is whether their work will be in Longhorn. It's not an inside joke among the coding cowboys. Longhorn is the code name for a radically new version of Windows designed to be a foundation of Microsoft's business in the coming decade. More than 2,000 of the company's engineers are rushing to finish the project by late 2004. | ||

Does anyone know what language Longhorn was written in? I would find it interesting if parts of it wasn't written in C#.
In my office we have about 200 PCs and I would estimate that less than 10 are loaded with XP. Everything thing else in Win2k Pro. In the Dev dept we have about 50 PCs and 5 have XP on them. I am guessing that these numbers are not too far from the norm. So why push a new OS out anytime soon? There is no appetite for this |

Todd, come on, take the whole quote: "and the technology industry won't turn around until 2004 or perhaps 2005 — just when Longhorn will arrive." In other words, it's just as cloudy aas the economic outlook.
Does anyone buy this crap?: "But Allchin bristled at the comparison. "Google's a very nice system, but compared to my vision, it's pathetic," he said." "But if you knew a little bit about me — for example, I love music — so when I'm searching for 'strings,' you know they should know this guy's probably thinking about guitars."" Umm, what if you're a programmer and a guitar player? What do you get? Is it really more compelling to have a machine "TRYING" to learn about you, then it is to type 'strings guitar'? Seriously, anyone who uses the web, if they are looking for guitar strings, would they just enter 'strings' into a search engine? Is this the best example you've got, Jimmy? |
