A year after announcing a heavy crackdown on piracy in the channel, Microsoft is claiming significant success in its battle against counterfeiters. Last year the software giant launched more than 1,000 legal cases against UK resellers caught selling illegal software. During 2002, Microsoft's anti-piracy team investigated more than 2,200 leads in the channel. | ||

RedHook, the large scale rings are where they are REALLY losing money. The underground groups do make a dent, no doubt, but the real money is lost with this companies selling the product.
In the future that may change, but I doubt it. It is just a feeling. People can listen to copyrighted music on the radio, in the movies, on TV... just about anywhere without having to pay anything extra for it. It is a mentality that music is free because it costs virtually nothing to make (which isn't exactly true). With software, you know someone spent lots of money on it. 99.9% of people who trade songs over the internet would never steal something from a store because they think it would be wrong. Music is something different. I don't get it :) |
