Microsoft to Change Its Passport System | |

Microsoft Corp. will give all users of its Passport online authentication system more control over how their personal information is shared, following months of discussions with the European Union (news - web sites). Among other revisions, Microsoft will change its Passport system in the next 18 months to let users select which sites within the network may have access to what personal information — including name, country of residence, occupation, birth date, and other data, said Adam Sohn, product manager in the .NET platform strategy group. | ||

| what a lot to do about nothing. how much $ did taxpayers (European) pay to "investigate" this for 8 months. How much did the lawyers make on THIS one? |

kevinu, msft will make the changes across the entire system, not just in Europe. The changes are so small, I wouldn't doubt they will be made by this time next week.
Again, this was a lot to do about nothing. And the Europeans were good enough to foot the bill this time. |

linuxhippie, let me break it down for you...
For 8 months of work, using 5 (i'm guessing here, but I think thats conservative. it could very well be 5X that many) lawyers @ $200/hour = ~ $1.5M and all they got out of it was... A couple of newly editable fields within passport accounts. Wow, that is some amazing ROI. And dont for a second think this helps that utopian thought (privacy!) because it boils down to a couple of fewer spams per user, AT MOST. Don't get me wrong. I'm not picking on the Europeans here. I think they got alot better ROI than the U.S. did in their sham of a case. |
