What do you know? Microsoft was right about Linux all along. Back in 1998, when lawyers for the software company tried to debunk the federal government's monopoly charge against it, they argued that the dynamics of an operating system market were inherently fluid. That was good for a chuckle. Then Microsoft's attorneys began to talk about the competitive threat posed by the Linux open-source operating system as proof the government was talking out of its hat. That brought the house down. | ||

I made a presentation to my Executive team last week, detailing my plan to convert our flagship product to run off XServe servers. I was promptly terminated. |

Very funny once again, nomdlev. Ever think about stand-up? Your posts are consistently comical. (You're going to have to come up with better bait than that.)
This guy left out one important point, though--IBM isn't only "selling Linux" (they don't actually sell Linux, but support it with their products) to sell services and middleware. They're also selling it to move their hardware at a discount. Linux might work well for some of their customers, but it's also an opportunity for IBM to employ a little bait-and-switch of sorts--once they have you on their hardware, it's an easy upsell to AIX. They've got you right where they want you. |

I am so glad that Meta "predicted" this!!!! Microsoft, you are doomed...Meta says so. Maybe they should just quit developing software and focus on mice and keyboards that run on linux.
Why would MS do this...Windows is a best of breed application server, why would they want to port to a mush of "volunteer" supported code. Linux is fun, but is no more stable or secure than MS newer platform products. This post was edited by humor on Friday, January 24, 2003 at 13:43. |

linuxhippie - "Linux already accounts for 15% to 20% of new server operating shipments, according to the report."
Linux has accounted for 15-20% of new servers for the past 4 years. There is no pattern of growth in that market. These analysts make wrong predictions all the time, it's actually pretty common. |
