Microsoft and Sundance Institute Announce Windows Media 9 Series As Accepted Screening Format at Sundance Film Festival | |

Today at the 2003 Sundance Film Festival, being held here Jan. 16--26, Microsoft Corp. and the Sundance Institute announced that Windows Media® 9 Series is an accepted screening format for the festival. In addition, four full-length feature films will be screened digitally using Microsoft® Windows Media 9 Series, including "Masked and Anonymous," with Jeff Bridges, Penelope Cruz, Bob Dylan, John Goodman, Jessica Lange and Luke Wilson; "The Maldonado Miracle," produced and directed by Salma Hayek and starring Peter Fonda, Mare Winningham and Ruben Blades; "A Foreign Affair," with David Arquette; and "Milk and Honey," featured in the American Spectrum, directed by Joe Maggio and starring Clint Jordan and Kirsten Russell. Microsoft also will host a hands-on workshop for filmmakers at the Sundance Institute near Provo, Utah, during the festival. | ||

It is very cool. I went to the Sundance web site and watched S-11 Redux.
If you want to try it do the following: Go here : http://www.sundanceonlinefilmfestival.com/home.html and click on President Bush then select S-11 Redux. |

Just a note that I'm at Sundance right now (well not right now, but earlier today I was) and Microsoft has a huge presence here this year. I never knew they were such a big sponsor of the event, or maybe its just this year timed with the release of 9 Series since I haven't been here in a while.
Anyway though, they've given away plenty of neat little toys to clutter your desk. ;-) They've also been screening different films (The Hunt for Red October, The Sting, and Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid) all in WM 9 Series form. Incredible picture quality to fill a theater size screen and at 384kb/s broadband encoding according to their tech guru I talked to. Andy |
